Last week, the Derby homecoming event was a huge success..

Students could participate in a multi-vehicle relay race.

This activity was part of homecoming week and took place last Thursday.

Shelby Louve is the director of Residence Life and heads the event every year.

Louve said the Derby started in 2017 and is a hall vs hall goofy race.

Louve said the vision for the race is to be a fun carnival event to kick off the homecoming festivities.

Louve said that the event originated with the intent of having an event just for students during homecoming week.

Abby Toner, an RA for Evans hall said all of the people on Residence Life advertise and recruit members for the relay teams.

Toner said her favorite part of the Derby is that it reminds her of being a kid, and she loves seeing people do things they haven’t been able to do for a while like ride a tricycle or roller skate.

South Hall won the relay race by a mile. However, everyone at the event and at the pre-event carnival had a blast.
