“Caesura” magazine announces 2026 theme

IWU’s student-run literary magazine, the “Caesura” will follow the theme “Sonder” this year.

Ella McDivitt, the head editor of “Caesura” said that the team picked “Sonder” as the theme due to its open-ended nature.

“Sonder is the concept of looking around at other people and realizing that they lead just as rich and complex lives as you do,” McDivitt said. “It can be interpreted however the writer wants it to be. Sonder can express both feelings of loneliness and community, of isolation and connection.”

McDivitt said that she and the other members of the “Ceasura” editing team felt that there were so many ways to explore Sonder through writing and art.

The literary magazine takes short prose pieces, poetry and illustrations done by IWU students and faculty. Submissions open early in the spring, and the magazine will be available for purchase late in the spring.

“We’re excited to see everyone’s creations,” McDivitt said.
