Sept 10 – The Sojourn’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Amplify Media, is Cadee Notter, a junior on the defending national champion Indiana Wesleyan Volleyball team.
Notter is a 5’7” libero from Danville, IN, and a graduate of Covenant Chrisitan HS.
“I felt the Lord calling me to come [to IWU],” Notter said. “This is where I need to go. It was kind of a straightforward path.”
Fellow junior teammate Marissa Mullins got to experience the 2023 National Championship with Notter during their sophomore season.
“[Cadee’s] faith and servant’s heart are so inspiring. She always checks up on her teammates and loves other people so well by being intentional in all of her relationships and conversations,” Mullins said.
Notter has led the Wildcats in service aces the past two seasons and is just a few digs away from 1,000 career.
“Besides her ability to dig and serve at a high level, she solves problems by helping her teammates through stressful situations during the match. She is the calm,” Head Coach Candace Moats said. “They count on Cadee keeping them together.”
The defense anchor to the Wildcats, Notter’s work as the libero often goes unnoticed.
“She makes everything look so effortless,” Mullins said. “She’s such a hard worker in everything she does, on and off the court, and she stays humble all while doing it.”
Last year’s NAIA and AVCA Coach of the Year speaks highly of Notter’s ability to calm her teammates on and off the court.
“She finds time to connect with her teammates even through her busy nursing schedule. She provides solid Godly advice when sought after and cares deeply that our culture is solid within the team,” Moats said.
Notter focuses more on the growth outside the gym, especially her desire for spiritual growth for herself and her teammates.
“I really like to pray for my teammates. I think that’s super powerful, and there’s power in prayer,” Notter said. “We have our little family groups and reached out to each other before coming into preseason and just prayed for each other.”
Notter leads the team on the court defensively and off the court spiritually.
“Cadee provides a calmness for her teammates. They count on and trust she will dig attacks from the opponent but also provides an assurance that each teammate on the court is doing great, which provides confidence to all, including her coaches,” Moats said.
The Wildcats are sitting at the top of the Crossroads League conference and continuing to build their winning resume. Notter attributes this success to the Lord.
“I think a huge thing is knowing that you’re playing for Christ and knowing that it’s not about yourself or your own success, but ultimately about how you can show others the love of Christ,” Notter said. “Knowing that this isn’t for me, but for my team and God. He gave me these gifts to ultimately glorify Him, so the way I can do that best is to play to my full potential.”
