BSU parties like the 90s

On Nov. 22 The Indiana Wesleyan University Black Student Union (BSU) hosted a 90s throwback dance party.

The throwback party was the last BSU event of the semester with IWU and Taylor University students in attendance.

IWU junior Tizelle Thomas attended the event.

“I think the event was the greatest idea the BSU came up with. It was very fun. It was extremely fun. We had a great time dancing, and most of us knew most of the songs there,” Thomas said.

Some songs played during the event included “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe, “Gettin Jiggy Wit It” by Will Smith and “No Scrubs” by TLC.

“Even though we weren’t born in the 90s, we definitely got to enjoy some great classics. It felt like you were quite literally living in a different time,” said Denise Gatabazi, an IWU junior.

Students wore staples of the 90s such as overalls, bright colored sneakers and baggy denim pants.

“I had this pink bandana and a green America Cycle shirt but it was a bigger size so to have that 90s look. I also had New Balance shoes so I think that definitely was a great fit, Gatabazi said.

BSU President MJ Brown and Social Media Manager Addie Davis led a “Guess that Song” battle consisting of two teams.

“Majority of people on the teams did not know the songs that were playing during the beginning of the competition but things started picking up by the end of it,” Thomas said.

Jourdain Brown and Kimani Green were respectively crowned Mr. and Mrs. Put It On for their outfit choices.

“I saw Kimani at the event and I have to say she definitely put it on. The outfit fit the title quite well. Jourdain as well,” Gatabazi said.

More events are in the early stages for the upcoming spring semester.
