Alliance Gardens held its annual Harvest event on Monday, September 30th.
The event included free popcorn and cider, food and produce sales, free face painting and a garden tour for the community.
Associate Professor of Biology and Alliance Garden Director Dr. Jennifer Noseworthy was hosting the event.
“We get together and we show off our gardens, we sell our produce, and we just get people together that love agriculture and love being outside to learn a little bit more about what we do,” Noseworthy said.
Community member Steve Conrad said he has attended the event for years to support Dr. Noseworthy.
“Dr. Noseworthy does a great job with the community garden,” Conrad said.
Conrad also said his favorite part of the event was the free popcorn and cider.
Alliance Garden Farm Manager Carol McCoy said she has worked at the garden for a couple years and was at the event helping sell food and produce.
“I didn’t have any experience before I started working here and Noseworthy, along with some other people, kind of taught me everything that I know,” McCoy said.
Noseworthy said she loves having students involved with the garden.
“I love seeing how excited students get from seeing a plant start as a seed and become a fruit,” Noseworthy said.
McCoy said she loves working for the garden because it is such a great experience.
“My favorite part of my job is learning all about different plants and vegetables I have never heard of before,” McCoy said.
McCoy also said students do not need to be a science or biology major to volunteer.
“You don’t have to know a single thing about gardening, you can literally start from scratch, and it’s really easy, and you might like it a whole lot more than you think,” McCoy said.
