The Recreation and Wellness Center hosts wRECk the Night 2.0 to welcome prospective students to campus and reflect IWU’s mission.
At the beginning of the fall semester, the REC hosts wRECk the Night for new students to build relationships and become familiar with the REC.
Ally Lucker said the event allows students to see all the different areas the REC has to offer. Coming from a small school, Lucker said she sees the benefit of the event creating this opportunity.
During the event, attendees could participate in rock climbing, dodgeball, pickleball, card games, volleyball and basketball. Eric Whisler said his favorite part of REC the Night was volleyball and dodgeball.
To make the event accessible and inclusive for all, card games were available at the front desk. Madie Ilic, the general manager of the REC, said they have had karaoke or bingo to offer something for everyone.
Attending students also become familiar with the REC facilities and IWU’s mission through the event.
“The goal of having wRECk the Night is to encompass IWU’s mission of making a fun, fair, safe and Christ-centered environment,” Ilic said.
This year, the REC introduced wRECk the Night 2.0. This event was provided through a partnership between the admissions office and the REC. Ilic said preparations for the night started a month in advance.
On the same weekend as wRECk the Night 2.0, the admissions office hosted Prospective Student Weekend. The weekend allowed prospective students to come to campus and experience life as an IWU student with wRECk the Night 2.0 as an event for these students.
Ilic said that the night invites students to be active and create relationships in a fun environment.
“The prospective students are having an opportunity to really make friends before they get here on campus officially,” Whistler said.
