Indiana Wesleyan University held its Pitch over Pizza event on Feb. 3.
Pitch over Pizza is an event put on by the business department at Indiana Wesleyan University that gives students an opportunity to pitch their entrepreneurial ideas to mentors and business coaches.
Dr. Jen Bennett puts on the event every year.
“Pitch over Pizza is our yearly event where we invite students across campus to come and share their entrepreneurial business ideas with our coaches and mentors that we have brought on campus,” Bennett said.
The mentors and business coaches vote on the students they believe should make it to the next round, which takes place in April, where a handful of the students from the Pitch over Pizza event will present their ideas to judges for a $1,000 prize to help them along their startup journey.
The mentors and coaches from the Pitch over Pizza event have lots of experience in the business world. One of the mentors at the event was Dawn Brown, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Grant County.
“(I was there) to listen to business ideas, and since I have my own business, to give some input on how the students could improve their businesses’ over the course of the semester,” Brown said.
As the event started pizza arrived for students, coaches and mentors to enjoy. Hence the name Pitch over Pizza.
Jaden Downs, a student in the business department at Indiana Wesleyan University got the chance to pitch his business idea “Campus Cravings.”
Campus Cravings has the goal of being an efficient delivery method for all college students, delivering your food, drinks or supplies to wherever you need them.
Downs said it is as if one were hungry in class they would be able to order some sort of food item from the restaurants on campus and have it delivered straight to the classroom that they were attending at that time.
“I’m hoping to get a mentor out of this who will give me guidance on how to successfully launch and maintain a business,” Downs said.
