Men’s bowling finished up the season with new Head Coach Chris Karlin. Coach Karlin seems to have a great appreciation for his new role.
“It is so much more than I ever thought it was going to be. Honestly, it was the best decision I could have made to come here. Indiana Wesleyan is just a different university. It was a good decision to make,” Karlin said.
Karlin also said that the role is much more challenging than he originally thought, but the challenge is worth it.
“Being the head coach this year, it’s so much more than I envisioned. There are so many more meetings, so many more practices. The days are longer than I thought they’d ever be. But, in the end, it’s worth it, just being a part of something like this,” Karlin said.
The effort that Coach Karlin and the team have put in seems to have paid off.
“They got their first win in program history. It was just a really cool experience because we went in, and we just bowled really well as a team. Everyone supported each other, even if they weren’t bowling,” Karlin said.
Ben Kuehner, a junior on the team, said that the team is very young.
“This is only the program’s fourth year, but we had our first tournament win this year last semester,” Kuehner said.
Kuehner said that the first tournament win was very fun.
“It was amazing. It was definitely a lot of fun. It’s making history, so hopefully, we can have more wins next year,” Kuehner said.
Chris Mace, a senior on the team, said that the team has grown since the win.
“We were able to win our first tournament in October, which was really nice. It was really solidifying for our team,” Mace said.
Mace is one of the two remaining members of the original team.
“I remember three years ago when I started this program. We were the only two people left from the original team. After all that time, winning your first tournament is almost like a dream come true,” Mace said.
On Wednesday, the men’s team found out they earned a spot in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals for the first time in program history. The Wildcats will travel to Smyrna, TN, on March 8-9.
