Grandparents Day tradition continues at IWU

Grandparents Day is a yearly tradition that brings grandparents to their students at Indiana Wesleyan University to enjoy a day filled with fun.

Becca Bowlin, Associate Director of University Relations, said, “Grandparents love it because campus is beautiful at this time of year. They love coming and eating the food.”

Grandparents Day is planned by the University Relations team at IWU, taking time to book spaces and special events ahead of time. The preparation for Grandparents Day can start as early as January the year before in order to work with various different departments, such as Pioneer, the music department or the marketing team.

There are lots of different things to do throughout the day that cater to the grandparents visiting, such as chapel, the Variety Show and different seminars.

“I always enjoy the chapel experience. It’s always a blessing.” Gail May, a grandmother and current IWU student, said.

Around 700 grandparents attended Grandparents Day this year. In the past years of this event there has been lots of positive feedback surrounding the beauty of IWU’s campus, as well as the enjoyment surrounding all of the activities available.

Elijah Sherman, a current music education major at IWU, said, “I’ve had a busy schedule today for all of the things going on with the Variety Show, but it’s always great to have family around.”

Last year’s Grandparents Day faced some unfortunate weather conditions due to some heavy rain, however this year brought clear skies and some warmth. This year the University Relations team aimed to provide a memorable experience for everyone included, despite some scheduling issues that students may have in their busy schedules.
