Matt Brock, the old lead singer for Elevation Worship, performed a concert for students during homecoming week. The concert took place in the commons of the student center last Thursday. Students could come and get Matt Brock merch and enjoy a free concert.
Joel Hunt, Executive Director of University Relations, said the concert is one of the many events his office puts on for Homecoming.
“My office is in charge of homecoming, so this is one of the events we put on for students during homecoming week,” Hunt said. “A lot of work goes into an event like this, a lot of fun, but a lot of work. It takes a lot of work to secure an artist like Matt Brock, but it’s worth it.”
Gidget Hamner, Director of University Advancement Communications, Events, and Projects, is in charge of planning all of homecoming.
“It takes a year to plan because there are so many moving parts to a whole entire weekend for students and for alumni. It also takes a bunch of people around campus who come together and own a specific event, then I help facilitate their needs,” Hamner said. “We specifically design this event just for students because we want to give them a special gift and make it really about them and make them feel loved and appreciated. So they will have memories to revisit when they are alumni.”
Lily Todd, a sophomore at Indiana Wesleyan University, said she heard about the event through Instagram and was instantly intrigued. Todd stated she was most excited to just have fun with other people.
“Events like these give students a great way to be involved and get to know other people, get to know other staff and just have fun together,” Todd said.
The event was made possible by Gidget Hamner and Joel Hunt, who organized it exclusively for students to show that Indiana Wesleyan University cares about its students.
