IWU MBB STARTS SEASON OFF STRONG

The No. 6-ranked IWU men’s basketball team opened their season on Tuesday, October 28, vs. Kuyper College and took care of business, winning 101-61.

The Wildcats had a fantastic game, and the crowd was a great turnout. The team created a great atmosphere by hyping each other up on and off the court.

“It’s a great feeling, but as a team we don’t look too much into it because we know we have to put in the work and play hard every single day in practice,” freshman guard Noah Reed said.

The guys on the team put in a lot of effort into training in the offseason.

“In the preseason we had a lot of workouts to prepare for the season and work hard every week in between games. It’s a great opportunity to work and cherish the moments we are here with our brothers,” freshman forward Kevin Šacas said. “I think it is going to be a great season; our goal is to go to the national championship.”

The team’s tight-knit brotherhood is visible by the way they are on and off the court.

“The community is a brotherhood and will be for life. It’s just a relationship that you don’t have with other people and I will cherish it for the rest of my life,” Reed said.

You can tell how important family is to Wildcats head coach Greg Tonagel by the way he treats his family and also treats the basketball team like his second family.

“I really like this group and their togetherness. It makes it really special to be at practice everyday and they want to be involved spiritually, and they just like to have fun together,” Coach Tonagel said. “We trained hard throughout the summer through camps, trips, etc. so the team has been practicing together for a while now.”

The Wildcats are now 5-0 and are paving their way to a great season.
