Another action-packed week in Indiana Wesleyan athletics delivered statement wins, record-breaking performances, and major program news as the Wildcats continue to build momentum heading deeper into the spring season. From dominant showing on the diamond to historic marks on the track, here’s a look back at what happened and what’s ahead.
Athletics Leadership
Indiana Wesleyan Athletics will soon enter a new era of leadership, as Jon Young has been named the next Director of Athletics, with his role set to begin in June 2026. Young brings more than a decade of experience from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, where he oversaw 26 athletic programs and emphasized strategic growth, fundraising, and mission-driven leadership.
“IWU has a rich tradition of excellence both on and off the field, and I’m eager to help build upon that legacy through intentional leadership and faithful stewardship of our athletic programs. My deepest desire is to see our coaches and student-athletes grow not only in competitive success but also in their integration of faith and character in all they pursue. I’m excited to partner with this remarkable community as we pursue Christ-centered excellence together,” Young said.
University leadership expressed confidence in Young’s ability to elevate IWU athletics both competitively and spiritually. Young echoed that vision, emphasizing his desire to develop student-athletes not only in sport but also in faith and character. His arrival signals a continued commitment to Christ-centered excellence as the Wildcats look to build on their already strong foundation.
Baseball
It was a statement week for Wildcat baseball, highlighted by a ranked victory and a series win over Mount Vernon Nazarene. IWU took down No. 22 Indiana Tech 12-6 behind a powerful offensive performance that included 14 hits and home runs from Trevor Vojtkofsky and Nick Wiley. The win marked the Wildcats’ first victory over a ranked opponent this season.
The Wildcats then battled through a four-game series with Mount Vernon, showcasing both resilience and firepower. After a tough 17-12 loss in game one of a doubleheader, IWU responded dramatically in game two. Trailing 8-1, the Wildcats erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning, capped by Greg Vineyard’s go-ahead grand slam to secure an 11-9 comeback victory.
IWU carried that momentum into Senior Day, sweeping the Cougars with wins of 4-2 and 9-4 to clinch the series.
Now sitting at 26-15 overall, the Wildcats will face a major test next as they travel to take on the number 1-ranked rival Taylor, a matchup that could have significant conference implications.
Softball
Indiana Wesleyan softball continued its dominant stretch, combining offensive explosions with clutch late-game heroics to pile up wins across a busy week. The Lady Wildcats completed a season sweep of Mount Vernon Nazarene, highlighted by a 14-3 run-rule victory and a thrilling 9-7 comeback in game two, where a five-run seventh inning sealed the win.
That comeback theme carried into their home matchup against Spring Arbor. IWU walked off game one in extra innings, 5-4, thanks to Sara Ruble’s clutch bases-loaded single. In game two, the Wildcats erased a 6-1 deficit with a six-run sixth inning to secure the sweep. Despite a midweek setback against Huntington, IWU bounced back in dominant fashion against Taylor, winning all three games of a tripleheader while scoring 26 total runs.
Now 29-9 overall and 22-4 in conference play, the Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the Crossroads League. They’ll look to keep that momentum rolling as they head to Goshen for their next doubleheader.
Track & Field
The Wildcats made headlines on the national stage this weekend with record-breaking performances across two meets. Elizabeth Barrett and Ally Hawk each set program records and hit NAIA “A” standards, with Barrett winning the 5K (16:54.21) and Hawk taking first in the 400m hurdles (1:00.86).
On the men’s side, Trenton Sweet delivered a standout performance with a school record in the 5K, clocking a 13:59.26, another NAIA “A” standard. The Wildcats also saw multiple top finishes, including wins in the 10,000 meters and 400m hurdles, along with strong relay performances.
With momentum building, IWU now turns its attention to hosting the Indiana Little State Championships, where the Wildcats will look to continue their record-setting season on home turf.
Tennis
It was a challenging yet competitive week for both tennis programs, as they faced top-ranked opponents. The No. 20 women’s team entered the week riding a five-match win streak and undefeated conference record before falling 5-2 to No. 12 Marian. Sofia Munoz highlighted the match with an impressive three-set win over a nationally ranked opponent.
The men’s team also squared off against Marian, dropping a 5-2 decision despite strong performances from Matheus Lima and Michail Klinkov, who each secured singles victories.
Both teams will have quick opportunities to respond as they prepare for another tough matchup against Bethel, with the women continuing their push to climb the national rankings and the men aiming to close the regular season on a high note.
Golf
Indiana Wesleyan golf continues to earn national recognition, with the women holding steady at No. 9 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll. The Wildcats will test themselves against strong competition at the Music City Invitational in Nashville, a key event as they prepare for postseason play.
Bowling
Freshman Camden Malott is set to make program history this week as he competes in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships in Green Bay. Malott becomes the first Wildcat bowler to reach this stage after an impressive sectional performance.
Facing the top bowlers in the nation, Malott’s appearance marks a major milestone for IWU bowling and an opportunity to showcase the program on a national platform.
Swim & Dive
Excellence in the classroom matched success in the pool, as both the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams earned four CSC Academic All-District honors each. The recognition highlights the Wildcat’s commitment to balancing high-level athletic performance with academic achievement.
These honorees now advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with national recognition set to be announced later this month.
Look Ahead
With postseason races heating up and several teams gaining momentum, the weeks ahead promise even more excitement for Wildcat athletics. Key matchups, national competitions, and championship meets are on the horizon as IWU continues to compete at a high level across the board. The Wildcats aren’t just winning; they’re building something bigger.
