Wildcat Sports Rewind: 4/8/26

Another busy and successful week for Indiana Wesleyan athletics saw standout performances across multiple programs, milestone achievements, and momentum building as spring competition heats up. Here’s a look back at what happened and what’s ahead for the Wildcats.

Athletics Department

Indiana Wesleyan continues to prove itself as one of the premier athletic departments in the NAIA, sitting at No. 2 in the Learfield Directors’ Cup winter standings. The Wildcats have accumulated 851 total points and trail only the University of the Cumberlands, while maintaining a strong cushion over third-place Marian. Key contributions came from competitive cheer’s national runner-up finish, along with top five efforts from both men’s and women’s indoor track and field.

Off the field, IWU has also earned national recognition through Head Athletic Trainer Zach Hobson, who was named the NATA-ICSM Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for the NAIA. His leadership and commitment to student-athlete care reflect the department’s strong culture. Looking ahead, the Wildcats will aim to maintain their top-tier standing as spring sports continue, with the final Directors’ Cup standings set to be released in June.

Baseball

It was a dominant week for Indiana Wesleyan baseball, as the Wildcats completed a four-game sweep over Grace. IWU showcased both offensive firepower and late-game resilience, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off win in game two of Thursday’s doubleheader. Greg Vineyard played a starring role, delivering multiple home runs across the series, including a clutch game- tying blast before the walk-off victory.

The momentum continued into Friday, where IWU piled up 20 runs across two more wins. Trevor Vojtkofsky and Jay Tomes powered the offense, while strong pitching performances from Noah Wathen and Judah Simmons anchored the staff. Simmons’ complete-game effort in his first career start stood out as a key highlight.

Now sitting at 22-14 overall, the Wildcats turn their attention to a tougher test as they prepare to host No. 19 Indiana Tech, a matchup that could provide a measuring stick moving forward.

Softball

Indiana Wesleyan softball had an outstanding week, extending its strong season with sweeps over both Grace and Spring Arbor. The Wildcats combined dominant pitching with explosive offense, outscoring opponents in multiple run-rule victories and tight defensive battles alike.

Sara Ruble delivered one of the most impressive performances of the season, hitting for the cycle across the Grace doubleheader while tallying five RBIs. Morgan Yeater also continued her hot streak, earning Crossroads League Player of the Week honors after batting .632 and consistently producing at the plate.

In the circle, Isabelle Beidelschies and Avery Toole were nearly untouchable, each earning their 10th wins of the season. Beidelschies added a complete-game shutout against Spring Arbor, while Toole’s efficiency and strikeout ability stood out.

With a 22-8 record, IWU now looks ahead to a road matchup against Mount Vernon Nazarene as they aim to continue their conference dominance.

Men’s Tennis

The week was a mix of challenges and celebrations for the Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis team. The Wildcats opened with a tough 6-1 loss to Lewis-Clark State, with Matheus Lima providing the lone point through a strong singles victory.

IWU rebounded in a big way on Senior Day, earning two wins over Lawrence Tech and Taylor. The Wildcats showed depth and composure, sweeping key doubles matches and controlling singles play. Lima, Michail Klinkov, and Timo Fischer all played pivotal roles in the victories. Now 9-12 overall, the Wildcats will look to build on that momentum as they prepare to face the University of Saint Francis next.

Women’s Tennis

No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan women’s tennis continued its dominant run, sweeping both Lawrence Tech and Taylor without dropping a single set in singles competition. The Lady Wildcats were in complete control throughout the day, showcasing depth and precision across the lineup.

Senior Sofia Munoz led the charge, going undefeated on the week and earning Crossroads League Player of the Week honors. Her performance at No. 1 in singles and doubles helped propel IWU to multiple wins and maintain its perfect conference record.

At 16-6 and 6-0 in league play, the Wildcats remain one of the top teams in the conference as they prepare to host Saint Francis.

Men’s Golf

Indiana Wesleyan men’s golf received national recognition this week, earning the No. 21 ranking in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll. The ranking reflects the team’s consistency and competitiveness as they enter the heart of their spring season. The Wildcats return to action on April 9th at Arbor Trace Golf Course, where they will look to continue their climb in the national rankings.

From national recognition to dominant performances on the field, it was a week full of success for the Wildcats. With key matchups ahead across multiple sports, Indiana Wesleyan looks poised to carry this momentum deeper into the spring season.
