IWU elects new student leaders

The Student Government Association (SGA) has announced the results of its recent elections, ushering in a new cohort of student leaders for the upcoming academic year.

Freshman Kaylynn Miller is the new Director of Academic Affairs.

“I really feel like I invested myself in the IWU community. I got to know a lot of people, and with that came to know a lot of their frustrations and problems,” Miller said.

Miller said she was motivated to help fellow students.

“I already worked closely with SGA before this election. It was a ton of fun, so I just really wanted to continue,” Miller said.

Freshman Eric Whisler was elected Director of Diversity.

“I have had this passion for cultivating kingdom diversity and I saw that one of the ways I could do that is through this position,” Whistler said.

Whistler said he hopes to help in bringing in students from all different backgrounds and cultures to IWU.

“I want to make sure that the students that are here create community amongst each other regardless of race and I am glad to be a part of that journey,” Whistler said.

Josh Cartwright was elected President with Marlem Romo as Vice President.

“I have had conversations with them about the future and I am super, super excited to work with them and get to spend more time with them. They are both great people,” Miller said.

Jamon Spikings is the honor’s college representative, and he said he is supportive of Cartwright and Romo’s efforts to provide food options for students with allergies.

“I am really excited about that. Just to bring more opportunities for students to be able to have better food because we all want better food,” Spikings said.

Spikings said that the future of Indiana Wesleyan University looks great.
