Wildcat Sports Rewind: 3/24/26

An action-packed weekend for Indiana Wesleyan athletics saw dominant conference performances and standout individual efforts across multiple programs. Here’s a full look at what happened and what’s ahead for IWU athletics.

Baseball

It was a historic and dominant weekend for Wildcat baseball, as IWU completed a four-game sweep of Goshen behind explosive offense and elite pitching. The highlight came Friday when Greg Vineyard hit for the cycle in a 14-4 victory, while Noah Wathen followed with a masterful 16-strikeout complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win.

The momentum carried into Saturday, where the Wildcats secured wins of 5-3 and 11-5. Clutch hitting and timely home runs powered the offense, while strong pitching performances from Kevin Corcoran and the bullpen anchored the victories. Nick Wiley and Landon Ruoff played key roles in the sweep, combining for multiple RBIs and big hits.

Wathen’s dominant outing earned him Crossroads League Pitcher of the Week honors, highlighting a week where IWU established itself as a serious contender in conference play. The Wildcats now sit at 17-11 overall and will face a crucial test against Marian in their next series.

Softball

The Lady Wildcats extended their winning streak to ten games with a dominant sweep of Goshen before splitting a tough road doubleheader against Saint Francis. IWU’s offense was electric, highlighted by a 14-1 win featuring an eight-run inning and a grand slam from Maddie Martin.

Freshman Avery Toole continued her breakout performance in the circle, throwing multiple complete games, including a shutout against Goshen. She followed that up with another strong outing against Saint Francis, helping IWU secure a 9-2 win in game two after a high-scoring 11-9 loss in game one.

Toole’s efforts earned her Crossroads League Pitcher of the Week honors, marking the third consecutive week IWU softball has received a weekly award. The Wildcats now turn their attention to a major matchup against No.7 Marian.

Men’s Tennis

Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis opened Crossroads League play with a tough 6-1 loss to No. 12 Huntington. The Foresters set the tone early by sweeping doubles play, putting IWU behind from the start.

Matheus Lima provided the lone bright spot for the Wildcats with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. Huntington controlled the remainder of singles competition to secure the team win. IWU will look to bounce back in their next match against Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Women’s Tennis

The No. 20 Lady Wildcats started conference play on a high note, defeating Huntington 6-1 in a dominant all-around performance. IWU claimed two of three doubles matches to take the early lead and carried that momentum into singles play.

Sofia Munoz led the charge with a gritty three-set win at No.1 singles, while the Wildcats won five of six singles matches overall. Strong performances across the lineup showcased IWU’s depth as they opened Crossroads League action with authority. The Wildcats remain on the road as they prepare for their next matchup against Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Track & Field

Indiana Wesleyan track and field opened the outdoor season by hosting the Polar Bear Classic, delivering multiple standout performances and national qualifying marks. Bri Nichols led the way for the women with an NAIA “B” standard in the hammer throw, earning her Crossroads League Field Athlete of the Week honors.

On the men’s side, Ridge Willard (pole vault) and Joshua Holder (shot put) each recorded NAIA “B standards, highlighting a strong start to the outdoor campaign. The Wildcats also posted numerous first-place finishes, including wins from Anna Vie, Ashlyn Kephart, and Evan Nickoles. With momentum building early, IWU now looks ahead to the Marian Invite as they continue the outdoor season.

Men’s Golf

No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan men’s golf captured its second consecutive tournament victory with a narrow win at the SCAD Cup. The Wildcats finished with a team score of 606, edging out the competition behind consistent play across the lineup.

Sam Dykema led the charge with an individual title, shooting an impressive 142 (-2) across two rounds. His steady performance, along with strong finishes from Karson Cabe and others, propelled IWU to another tournament win. The Wildcats continue to build momentum as they head deeper into the spring season.

Women’s Golf
