Hodson and Evans host Evening of Elegance

Hodson Hall and Evans Hall will host their joint event “Evening of Elegance” this Friday at 7 p.m. in The Commons.

The event, exclusive to Hodson and Evans, is a video awards ceremony in which both halls present original short films they’ve created. Each floor in both halls creates a video that premieres during the event.

“It used to be just a fancy dinner and changed to a video awards ceremony at some point,” Jeremy Gross, the resident director of Hodson, said. “I have only known it as it is today.”

Gross said the event serves as a great way for the two halls to connect.

“It’s honestly been super fun,” Jack Houtz, a first-year Hodson resident who stars in his floor’s video, said. “It’s been fun getting it filmed and edited and all that.”

Houtz said he became closer with his hall throughout the process of filming.

“Because we’re filming, we’re spending a lot more time together and just kind of bonding through this,” Houtz said.

Caedmon Foster, a sophomore resident assistant of Hodson Hall, said he appreciated how filming videos for the event allowed participants to do something they wouldn’t usually get to.

“It brings people together to access a part of their brain that’s not normally used, our creative sides,” Foster said. “It’s just a fun event where we get to work together to do something that we don’t normally get to do, and it brings together people that wouldn’t necessarily get to hang out otherwise.”

Foster said he appreciates the deeper bonding with Evans Hall that the event allows for.

“It’s very community building and allows us to bond with our sister hall as well,” Foster said.
