2024 Summer Ministry Teams had an impactful summer

This past summer, the School of Theology and Ministry’s summer ministry teams traveled for two months to different camps around the country to share the word of God.

Naomi Rugh, second year student, said that there were several teams this summer.

“I think this year we had about six different teams,” Rugh said. “We had two worship teams, and we also have an NTS team, which is a lot of production stuff, and they do a lot of the camps at different Wesleyan universities.”

Rugh said that to be a part of the summer ministry teams, there are some processes for approval.

“You fill out an application, and after you turn in your application, you’ll be reached out to for a group interview,” Rugh said.

Rugh said that during her time on one of the worship band teams, she did not know how much of an impact it would have on the community.

“At our first camp, we were having problems with our audio stuff during our set, so we just sang the rest acoustically, without music,” Rugh said. “I didn’t know what kind of impact that had on the kids, until one of the leaders said that she felt like Jesus was sitting right next to her.”

With the ministry teams traveling to the different camps, not only were the communities impacted but also the students who were a part of these teams.

Sophomore Christopher Paterson said that the worship team he was on gave him experiences and impacted him in a way that he never experienced.

“I think what stands out immediately is the relationships that I was able to grow with my teammates,” Paterson said. “Being a part of a group who all wanted to honor Jesus and make music for him was a blessing, and something I never really had before.”

Another student, Anna Vie, said that she felt the Lord taught her a lot, and she found a new family in her team.

“There are so many good facets to being on a team that are so good, and the Lord taught me so much this summer,” Vie said. “Another part of my experience was just how my team really felt like a family.”

Vie said that those interested in joining a ministry team this summer should pray about it.

“I would highly recommend joining but I would also recommend praying before fully committing,” Vie said.

Patterson said that being a part of these summer ministry teams is a service for all.

“For people that are interested, I think there’s definitely a reason that you’re interested, and I think it’s important to try out because it is a blessing to those on the teams and to everyone you get to encounter,” Paterson said.

The applications are currently open for next summer’s ministry teams.
