IWU Football prepares for rival Trojans on Homecoming Weekend

The No. Three ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats return to Marion to take on the upstart Taylor Trojans.

The Wildcats are coming off of a victory last Saturday against the No. 10 ranked Marian Knights by a score of 77-21.

Wildcats Head Coach Andrew Rode said the Trojans present several challenges that his defense is going to have to overcome to be victorious on Saturday.

“They’ve done an incredible job over there, and we’re really seeing the fruits of the coaching staff’s labor,” Rode said. “Their offense is one of the top-scoring offenses in the country, and their defense, I think, has really found an identity in the past few weeks. They’re playing really good football right now.”

This is the seventh time these two teams have faced off on the gridiron. The Wildcats lead the all-time series with four wins compared to the Trojans two.

Graduate defensive lineman Robbie Hunter said the Trojans have put a lot of things together, which has been key for their success.

“Their success on offense comes from the way they run the triple option,” Hunter said. “They have this magical ability to not be scared or intimidated by anybody”

The Trojans come into this game with a 5-1 record with their only loss coming to the Marian Knights.

Graduate Wide Receiver Levi Tidwell said it’s important for himself and the team to continue to take it one game at a time and remember what got the team to this point.

“We can’t get into the rat poison of getting up on our high horse. Pride comes before the fall,” Tidwell said. “We just have to do our job by executing and communicating well, and we have to stay united as one.”

Kickoff between the Wildcats and Trojans is at 4 p.m. EST.
