Indiana Court of Appeals comes to IWU

On Nov. 21, Indiana Wesleyan University hosted a hearing for the Court of Appeals of Indiana, in which Davis & Sons Excavating LLC v. International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 were being heard.

Davis & Sons argued that members of the family who owned the company were being stalked by members of Union 150. Union 150 claims there was no intentional stalking of anyone affiliated with Davis & Sons Excavating.

Appeals on Wheels happens throughout Indiana to help young college students to learn more about the judiciary’s indispensable role in Indiana government.

There were just around 200 students, faculty, and community members who attended the Appeals on Wheels event.

Garrett Hathaway, a student at Indiana Wesleyan University, said, “ I really want to learn what court is like as well as the format of how it runs.”

Vincie Solano, a business law student had some prior knowledge before going to the Appeals on Wheels event.

“Understanding how fast (a trial) goes and how well you need to know your information before you show up to court was really fascinating to see.”

The Court of Appeals of Indiana will be back at Indiana Wesleyan University next semester.
