Indiana Wesleyans’ student-led organization Ignite hosted its third-ever Flapjack Madness Friday night in the commons.
“Ignite has been hosting this event for the past three years, and all of the funds we raise go to Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital,” President of Ignite Jamie Bryant said.
Before, Flapjack Madness was hosted during March Madness, hence the name, but now it is in February to invite prospective students.
Since last year, they have been partnering with admissions to create a large, restaurant-style late-night pancake event for current students and the 100 prospective students being hosted on campus that night.
Admissions donates all the materials needed to make this event happen. Ignite offers everyone two free pancakes and unlimited pancakes for five dollars, with beverages being a dollar and included water, orange juice, milk, and chocolate milk.
This event had a restaurant vibe, with waiters assigned to sections and taking orders efficiently. Pancakes were made in the Hub, where they were organized by which section they were going to.
Students filled the commons talking and playing games while waiting for their orders.
Current junior Faith Wood said she loved seeing the impact of Flapjack Madness.
“I love seeing everyone come out to this event that is for a great cause, and I love the community this creates,” Wood said.
Tammy Richardson, one of the admissions faculty who buys all our supplies and helps organize this event to work with prospective students’ schedules, said this is a great way for students to get a taste of campus life.
“The prospective students coming here not only get to have fun, but they get to see what organizations are here on campus and what purpose they serve. I just think it’s great for them to see that,” Richardson said.
While it was a long, busy night, it was quite rewarding for the Ignite crew, who announced they raised over $700 and served close to 300 students.
Flapjack Madness is a tradition Ignite hopes to keep alive and make better each year.
Ignites’ next event is their huge fundraising push, the Month of Miracles, taking place throughout February.
